Healed by God's Power!

My name is Hugh Wilson. I was born in Belfast in 1960 and brought up on the peace line between the Shankill Road and the Falls Road. I gave my life to Christ when I was 16 years of age. I am married to Lynne, who is also a Christian and we have three daughters. We eventually came to live in Bangor.

I had worked in the Post Office for about eighteen years, when I decided to have a change of career and took a job in sales, which I really enjoyed. After a short period of unemployment, the first time in my life that I had been without work, I quickly found a job doing deliveries. I was only a few weeks in this job when I started to experience pain in my right shoulder. Two years previously I had a fall in the Post Office and had damaged my shoulder. I never believed that it had healed correctly. I was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital, where they examined my shoulder and found it to be inflamed and swollen. They gave me some pain killers and tablets to reduce the swelling. Then a couple of days later simply getting dressed, my shoulder locked completely. To be honest, I had never experienced pain like it before. I didn't know what to do, for my arm was powerless, and I could not lift anything at all. I was rushed back up to the hospital. The doctors told me that the muscle had came away from the bone and that the bone had calcified and locked, resulting in an extremely bad dislocation. They pointed out that this was an unusual case, and would take a very long time to put right.

This left me in a real predicament, having just started a new job, but whatever troubles I face in life, my first port of call is God! I prayed that something good would come out of this. I phoned my employer, told him the problem, and continued to receive injections for the pain, but could only manage a restricted movement of thirty degrees with my arm, although I did return to work, struggling to complete my daily tasks using only my good arm.

One Sunday morning I came into church and Martin asked me if he could pray for me after the service. I had mixed emotions about everything at this stage, and even tried, to my shame, to avoid Martin after the service. He collared me as he always does, and we went into one of the classrooms where he prayed the simplest prayer. Halfway through, he said to me, "Hugh, that lump has gone." When he had finished praying, he asked me to lift my arm above my head, an action which would have been an impossible task when I only had thirty degrees of movement! I lifted it above my head, around my back, and anywhere I wanted to. I was completely amazed! I know I shouldn't have been so startled, for I know that God still heals today! God completely healed that injury in an instant! Praise Him! I believe that the Lord was saying to me, "I love you and I am still here with you, even through the hard times."

The Hospital still wanted me to attend physiotherapy, which I did, but I received a phone call from one of the orthopaedic consultants at the Royal Victoria Hospital, and I called to see him. He was completely amazed when I moved my arm and shoulder quite freely without pain. "What happened to you," he asked. I replied, "God has healed me!" I went on to tell him how I had been prayed for in church and how God had touched me. He said, "Oh, our injections must have helped, for it takes a couple of weeks for these things to sort themselves out." I told him that the healing occurred only two days after the injection had been given! "God has healed me; it is as simple as that!" I explained to him how I had been in agony and how limited my movement had been until I was prayed for, when in an instant I was healed! He said, "Can I take another x-ray?" Another x-ray was taken, with startling results! It appeared like it was the shoulder of someone else, because there was no damage there at all, whereas the original x-ray had revealed extensive injuries! The consultant told me that I was a most unusual case, because whilst his original prognosis had been a 60-80% recovery of movement, he could now give me a 100% chance of recovery. He was amazed!

I know that God touched me at a time in my life, when I needed it most, and I thank Him and praise Him and pray that whoever reads this will come to know that He is very real. The greatest miracle of all is when a man or woman puts their faith and trust in Christ. God loves you and has a plan and purpose for your life. I pray that through this simple tract you will come to know Christ in your own life. If you want to accept Christ into your own life, then this simple prayer will help you:

Dear Father, I know that I am a sinner, I need forgiveness and I believe that Jesus died for my sins. I am willing to turn away from my sin, and I now invite Jesus to come into my heart and life as my personal Saviour. I am willing by God's Grace to follow and obey Christ as Lord of my life.
